FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 16, 2004 $1,014,632 Granted to Local Agencies Fort Wayne, IN: The Fort Wayne Community Foundation, in its third quarter of 2004, granted a total of $1,014,632 to nonprofit agencies in Allen County. The Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Community Foundation met on August 5, 2004, and selected grants are listed below: Grants awarded from the Community Grant Making Fund include: American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana: $14,676 to purchase a new copier for the Fort Wayne Chapter, which services close to 40,000 clients annually by providing Disaster Services, Armed Forces Emergency Services, Multicultural Information Exchange, and Health and Safety Services. Community Partnerships, Inc.: $11,000 for the Allen County Community Indicators Project, which will provide insight on the quality of life in our community, and the Organizational Effectiveness Project, which will assist the Better Business Bureau in increasing the number of evaluated local charities. Fort Wayne Civic Theatre: $40,000 for the IN THE WINGS Arts-In-Education Program, which provides free theatrical opportunities to at-risk and economically disadvantaged youth and their families. The Civic Theatre received an additional $10,000 in general operating support. Leadership Fort Wayne, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating assistance to help support the agency’s mission of providing leadership development to a diverse group of citizens to enable them to serve the community. Mental Health Association in Allen County: $10,000 in general operating support for the agency’s programs, which help families and clients access counseling and treatment facilities by assessing the type of problem and then suggesting and facilitating the proper medical and/or legal procedures. Turnstone Center for Disabled Children & Adults, Inc.: $30,992 for technology upgrades to help increase the agency’s operating efficiency. Turnstone provides therapeutic services to persons with disabilities and their families to promote greater self-sufficiency and emotional well being. Vincent House, Inc.: $12,000 for technology upgrades for client services and staff productivity. Vincent House provides shelter, care, advocacy, housing and supportive services for homeless families as they strive to become independent, productive members of the community. West Central Neighborhood Ministry, Inc. d.b.a. Wellspring Interfaith Social Services: $45,000 for the Stronger Families, Stronger Neighborhoods Program, which strives to create more self-sufficient families by providing programs, activities, and services designed to strengthen families. Y.W.C.A. Fort Wayne: $10,000 in operating support for the Self-Sufficiency Program, a transitional housing program for women with domestic abuse in their past which places an emphasis on furthering educational goals and improving employability for sustainable self-sufficiency. Grants awarded from the Clarke Endowment Fund include: Community Transportation Network, Inc.: $35,000 for Coordinated Medical and Subscription Transportation Services, which provide transportation for clients who are either frail, disabled, or of lower economic status to and from medical appointments and social services agencies. Embassy Theatre Foundation, Inc.: $50,000 towards the Lower Level Ladies Lounge Renovation and Expansion Project, which will fully renovate the ladies restroom and lounge built in 1928 and will add nine new water closets. Matthew 25 Health and Dental Clinic: $5,000 for Dental Hygiene Services at the Dental Clinic at IPFW, which provides care to those residents in Allen County whose income falls at or below 125% of the federal poverty guideline. Turnstone Center for Disabled Children and Adults, Inc.: $50,000 for the transition of a key physical therapist from the agency’s homecare program, which serves people with disabilities who are unable to leave their homes for rehabilitation due to their fragile health. Grants awarded from The Edna Foundation Nonpermanent Fund include: Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, Inc.: $5,000 for the 2004 Arts United Fund Drive, which will provide support to non-profit cultural organizations throughout northeast Indiana. Fort Wayne Park Foundation, Inc.: $3,500 for the maintenance of the Rivergreenway, a 15-mile long linear park designed for activities such as bicycling, hiking, nature study, jogging, rollerblading, or for a leisurely walk. SCAN, Inc.: $3,500 in general operating support to help support SCAN’s mission to prevent child abuse and neglect through direct service, education, coordination, and advocacy. Science Central, Inc.: $5,000 in general operating support to help the organization continue to provide the joys of science, math, and technology to more than 30,000 schoolchildren through visits and outreach programs. Grant awarded from The Knight Donor Advised Fund: Headwaters Park Alliance, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support for the ongoing operations of the park, including the outdoor ice-skating rink. Please call the Foundation office at 426-4083 to request the new grant guidelines. Established in 1956, the Fort Wayne Community Foundation is a public, charitable foundation serving Allen County. The Community Foundation had assets of over $78 million at December 31, 2003, and awarded over $6.5 million in charitable grants and scholarships in that year.
