$ 1,170,791 GRANTED TO LOCAL AGENCIES

Fort Wayne, IN: The Fort Wayne Community Foundation, in its first quarter of 2005, granted a total of $1,170,791 to nonprofit agencies in Allen County. The Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Community Foundation met February 10, 2005, and selected grants are listed below:

Grants awarded from the Community Grant Making Fund include:

Allen County Council on Aging, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support to help ensure that senior citizens have access to the services that are necessary to maintain independent living.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana, Inc.: $28,000 for the purchase and installation of a new telephone system to help support the agency’s infrastructure upgrades and growth plans.

Cancer Services of Allen County, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support to improve the organization’s capacity to serve those diagnosed with cancer.

Family and Children’s Services, Inc.: $10,641 for equipment and software upgrades to improve the agency’s infrastructure to better serve clients with casework for families, individuals, and children.

Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support to help sustain and expand the Philharmonic’s musical and educational programming.

The Literacy Alliance: $10,176 for a server and workstations to improve the agency’s infrastructure and to provide support services to end illiteracy in adults.

Lutheran Homes, Inc.: $50,000 for the Children’s Village, an intergenerational childcare facility, to be located on the agency’s South Anthony campus that will encourage interactions between older adults and children.

SCAN, Inc.: $10,000 for the Family Connections Parent Resource Center that focuses on divorce recovery services and parenting services tailored to the middle class.

The Villages of Indiana, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support for The Villages’ Fort Wayne location that provides therapeutic foster care, transitional living, and independent living services to children. The Villages was also awarded $24,752.23 for the installation of a four-station computer lab in the Fort Wayne regional office to help youth develop computer and technology skills while in foster care.

Grants awarded from the Clarke Endowment Fund include:

AIDS Task Force, Inc.: $23,171 for HIV prevention education and testing programs designed to address HIV and STD issues among residents in Allen County with high risk factors.

Community Action of Northeast Indiana, Inc.: $50,000 for the removal of bad soil at the new Head Start campus in the Hanna-Creighton neighborhood. The new facility will provide services for up to 200 children.

Early Childhood Alliance, Inc.: $20,000 for incentives for the Paths to Quality Program, which provides developmentally appropriate materials and activities to children as well as recognition and support for childcare providers dedicated to achieving a high level of programming quality.

Fort Wayne Urban League: $50,000 to offset the unanticipated cost of bad soil removal from the new facility that will house the agency’s administrative and program offices as well as the Pontiac Youth Center.

Matthew 25 Health and Dental Clinic: $16,000 in salary support for a volunteer coordinator who will manage the ongoing needs of the agency’s more than 400 volunteers who help provide free medical, dental, and social services to the underserved and underinsured.

Established in 1956, the Fort Wayne Community Foundation is a public, charitable foundation serving Allen County. The community foundation had assets of more than $85 million at December 31, 2004, and awarded more than $6.2 million in charitable grants and scholarships in that year. These dollars support programs and projects for arts and culture, community development, education, health and human services, and other charitable purposes.
