$1,341,289 Granted To Local Agencies

Fort Wayne, IN: The Fort Wayne Community Foundation, in its fourth quarter of 2004, granted a total of $1,341,289 to nonprofit agencies in Allen County. The Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Community Foundation met on November 4, 2004, and selected grants are listed below:

Grants awarded from the Community Grant Making Fund include:

Aging and In-Home Services of Northeast Indiana, Inc.: $5,500 to purchase a plate maker for their offset printer allowing the staff to continue to produce program flyers and booklets for clients as well as other in-house materials.

Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, Inc.: $31,016 for several hardware and software infrastructure updates, benefiting anyone who participates in the activities of any of their member organizations.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support to assist the agency in helping youth of all backgrounds, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders.

Center for Nonviolence, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support to assist the agency as it provides a number of services designed to end family violence and other forms of violent acts and ways of thinking.

Early Childhood Alliance, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support for their vision of a quality child care and early education system that offers community support for families in their role as parents, supports economic opportunity and self-sufficiency of families and offers quality care and education to children.

Fort Wayne Ballet, Inc.: $10,000 to purchase development software to increase donor communications and solicitations, enhancing the agency’s continuing focuses on dance education and performance.

Fort Wayne Community Educational Center, Inc. d.b.a. Up The Stairs Community Center: $14,613 for hardware and software infrastructure updates to aid in the expansion of the agency’s Archive & Resource Library and the publication of the Rainbow Reader.

League for the Blind and Disabled, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support to assist the agency in promoting full inclusion of people with severe disabilities in all aspects of community life.

Northeast Indiana Public Radio, Inc.: $25,000 for the More Channels, More Service campaign to develop a strong dual program service, consisting of one station devoted to classical music and another to news, information, and jazz.

Otis R. Bowen Center for Human Services, Inc.: $3,900 to purchase three Automated External Defibrillators for the Center, which provides a range of outpatient psychiatric and counseling services.

Ronald McDonald House of Indiana, Inc.: $3,500 to assist Allen County guests staying at the Ronald McDonald House, which provides overnight accommodation for families of children who are treated at Indianapolis hospitals.

YWCA Fort Wayne: $23,160 for upgrades to the agency’s computer network infrastructure, allowing for ongoing work including tracking client statistics, outcomes measurement reporting and donor tracking to support their domestic violence programs.

Grants awarded from the Clarke Endowment Fund include:

Allen County 4-H Clubs, Inc.: $6,772 to purchase tables, poster racks, and display racks for 4-H exhibits. Last year, the program showcased over 2,400 exhibits from 1,221 members at the annual County Fair.

Allen County Christmas Bureau, Inc.: $10,000 for the Adopt a Family Program in which businesses, churches, individuals, and schools are matched with needy families to provide Christmas assistance.

Allen County Public Library Foundation: $3,000 in general operating support for the Northeast Indiana Radio Reading Service, which offers a variety of programs, such as personal reader programs; audio description services of live theater, museum exhibits, nature trails, parades, and other visual venues; audio transcription; taping services; or other audio-based community services.

Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc.: $50,000 to purchase food items for the SeniorPak, Community Cupboard, and Kids Café direct service programs.

Fort Wayne Clubhouse, Inc. d.b.a. The Carriage House: $43,446 in housing support for individuals with mental illness allowing The Carriage House to assist members to identify, move into, and maintain safe housing.

Homebound Meals, Inc.: $3,000 in general operating support to help pay subsidies for clients who are unable to pay the full cost of hot, nutritional meals delivered to their homes.

League for the Blind and Disabled, Inc.: $40,000 for the Information and Referral Program Quality Enhancement Initiative to improve access to information and referral assistance for people with severe disabilities.

Rainbow Community Organization d.b.a. Project Renew: $23,100 for the Neighborhood Impact Program, which provides grant dollars to homeowners in the Creighton Home neighborhood to assist them with code related repairs and mortgages.

Science Central, Inc.: $17,868 for The Skateboard Experience, a hands-on exhibit highlighting the science of skateboards and skateboarding.

Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice, Inc.: $50,000 in support for the addition of patient rooms, the expansion of the family room and the hospice team work area, as well as to purchase computers for the staff.

YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne: $20,000 for the Old Fort Branch After School Program, which provides sports, arts, and educational tutoring sessions for children between the ages of 5 and 18.

Grants awarded from the Stephan Family Community Needs Fund include:

Homebound Meals, Inc.: $7,000 in general operating support to help pay subsidies for clients who are unable to pay the full cost of hot, nutritional meals delivered to their homes.

Established in 1956, the Fort Wayne Community Foundation is a public, charitable foundation serving Allen County. The Community Foundation had assets of over $78 million at December 31, 2003, and awarded over $6.5 million in charitable grants and scholarships in that year. These dollars support programs and projects for arts and culture, community development, education, health and human services, and other charitable purposes.
