$842,373 GRANTED TO LOCAL AGENCIES
Fort Wayne,
IN: The Fort Wayne Community Foundation, in its second quarter
of 2003, granted a total of $842,373 to nonprofit agencies in Allen
County. The Board of Directors of the Fort
Wayne Community Foundation met on May 8, 2003 and selected grants are
listed below:
Grants
awarded from the Community Grant Making Fund include: Cedars Hope, Inc.: $10,000 for operating support and
$4,323 for computer equipment.
Cedars Hope provides permanent supportive housing to women who are
homeless and living with a serious mental illness. East Wayne Street
Center: $20,182 for
the Head Start Summer Literacy/Ready for School Program for children going
to Kindergarten in the fall. Edwards Production,
Inc.: $3,000 for the
Stage Directions Program which educates and entertains
audiences. Fort
Wayne Children’s Choir: $4,000 for the Choral Music Community
Outreach and Education Program for children from all backgrounds that
exemplifies artistic and educational excellence. Fort Wayne Park
Foundation: $34,044
for the Community Center’s Computer Lab Fort Wayne Zoological
Society: $7,910 for
computer software for the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo Harold W. McMillen Center for
Health Education, Inc.: $45,350 for technology upgrades and
$10,000 for operating support. Martin Luther King Montessori
School: $14,000 for
the Scholarship Assistance Program

Frank: A History for Today Program Fort Wayne Rescue Mission
Ministries: $9,690 for
computer upgrades Goodwill Industries of Northeast

for the Rebuilding Goodwill Program Headwaters Park Alliance,
Inc.: $50,000 for the
Headwaters Park Ice Skating Rink Lifeline Youth & Family
Services, Inc.:
$50,000 for the Fast Track Independent Living Program Stop the Madness,
Inc.: $50,000 for the
Parents & Children Excelling (P.A.C.E.) Program United Hispanic Americans,
Inc./Benito Juarez Cultural Center: $26,410 for the Chartering New
Paths/For Our Youth Program YMCA of Greater Fort
Wayne: $20,000 for the
Old Fort YMCA Summer Day Camp Program

Inc.: $7,500 for the
Musicians in Nursing Home Rooms Program

Established in 1956,
the Fort Wayne Community Foundation is a public, charitable foundation
serving Allen County. The Community Foundation had assets of over $68
million at December 31, 2002, and awarded over $7.4 million in charitable
grants and scholarships in that year. These dollars support programs and
projects for arts and culture, community development, education, health
and human services, and other charitable purposes.
