FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - February 13, 2004 $898,924 GRANTED TO LOCAL AGENCIES Fort Wayne, IN: The Fort Wayne Community Foundation, in its first quarter of 2004, granted a total of $898,924 to nonprofit agencies in Allen County. The Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Community Foundation met on February 5, 2004, and selected grants are listed below: Grants awarded from the Community Grant Making Fund include: Rainbow Community Organization, Inc. d.b.a. Project Renew: $4,000 for the Home Ownership Lending program that provides opportunities for quality affordable housing to revitalize neighborhoods. Super Shot, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support for the Free Immunization Clinics that provide free immunizations to all children, particularly those identified by the Center for Disease Control for being at risk. AWS: $40,000 for the Red Cedar Center's Sunshine Nicka Summer Day Camp, a 57-acre therapeutic equestrian camp and recreation facility offering integrated programs with persons with disabilities as well as their nondisabled peers. Girl Scouts of Limberlost Council, Inc.: $50,000 for A Promise to Every Girl Capital Campaign for capital improvements to Camp Logan to enhance the resident camp experience for more girls. Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana, Inc.: $15,000 for the Economics of Staying in School program which is designed to help 7th grade students identify goals and the paths to achieving them through education and a diploma. Grants awarded from the Clarke Endowment Fund include: AIDS Task Force, Inc.: $8,544 for the Client Assistance Program that provides persons living with HIV/AIDS with food, medical assistance, and other assistance not covered under other programs. ARCH, Inc.: $44,622 for the Alexander T. Rankin House Masonry and Foundation Stabilization project. Alexander Rankin was a primary participant and organizer of the Abolition Movement and Underground Railroad in both Indiana and Ohio. Early Childhood Alliance, Inc. fiscal agent for The Child Care and Early Education Partnership: $15,000 for Paths to QUALITY to provide incentives for child care providers who have increased the quality and level of their programs. Fort Wayne Skatepark, LLC: $50,000 towards the construction of a skatepark in Lawton Park. Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra, Inc.: $25,000 for a Special Event Assistant who will oversee at least three major fund raising events for the Philharmonic each season. Science Central, Inc.: $12,992 for the Old Fort YMCA Partnership Lego Mindstorms Program that allows children to be creative while learning about complex subjects such as technology. Grants awarded from the Knight Donor Advised Fund include: Rainbow Community Organization, Inc. d.b.a. Project Renew: $6,000 for the Home Ownership Lending program that provides opportunities for quality affordable housing to revitalize neighborhoods. Early Childhood Alliance, Inc. fiscal agent for The Child Care and Early Education Partnership: $5,000 for Paths to QUALITY child care provider incentives. Fort Wayne Dance Collective, Inc.: $7,338 to upgrade existing technology such as new computers, software and a copier. Additional Grants awarded include: AWS: $10,000 in operating support for Red Cedar Center from the Opportunities Fund, a restricted endowment for the benefit of mentally and physically handicapped people in the greater Fort Wayne area. AIDS Task Force, Inc.: $6,456 for the Client Assistance Program from the Opportunities Fund. Family & Children's Services, Inc.: $8,000 for the professional training required for certification and licensure from the Stephan Family Community Needs Fund. Forensic Nursing Specialties, Inc. d.b.a. Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center: $5,000 to cover expenses incurred with completing an audit from the Stephan Family Community Needs Fund. Please call the Foundation office at 426-4083 to request the new grant guidelines. Established in 1956, the Fort Wayne Community Foundation is a public, charitable foundation serving Allen County. The Community Foundation had assets of over $78 million at December 31, 2003, and awarded over $6.5 million in charitable grants and scholarships in that year. These dollars support programs and projects for arts and culture, community development, education, health and human services, and other charitable purposes. ###
