$952,850 GRANTED TO LOCAL AGENCIES

Fort Wayne, IN: The Fort Wayne Community Foundation, in its fourth quarter of 2003, granted a total of $952,850 to nonprofit agencies in Allen County. The Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Community Foundation met on November 6, 2003, and selected grants are listed below:

Grants awarded from the Community Grant Making Fund include:

Allen County Fort Wayne Historical Society, Inc.: $19,927 to purchase and upgrade video equipment and a new telephone system 
Artlink, Inc.: $10,000 in operating support for various exhibits, art classes, and programs 
Children's Hope, Inc.: $25,000 towards a capital building campaign for Hospitality House, a six-bedroom hospitality house and respite center 
Community Transportation Network, Inc.: $5,000 towards the purchase of Route Logic, a software package that will assist in scheduling transportation services from various agencies 
Embassy Theatre Foundation, Inc.: $10,000 for general operating support for the Embassy Centre 
Hope House, Inc.: $10,000 in general operating support for the transitional residential programs for homeless, chemically dependent women in recovery 
Northeast Indiana Public Radio, Inc.: $27,024 towards a telephone system upgrade which will support on air capabilities and add additional lines 
YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne, Old Fort Branch: $20,000 for the After School Program where children are able to participate daily in a range of activities from sports to homework assistance 
YWCA Fort Wayne: $35,000 for their Outreach/Education Services that provide support, services, and education to victims of domestic violence

Grants awarded from the Clarke Endowment Fund include:

Allen County Christmas Bureau, Inc.: $10,000 for the Adopt a Family program 
Allen County Council on Aging, Inc.: $20,000 for the Home Assistant Program in which home assistants are assigned to provide support to a senior in need on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis 
Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc.: $55,000 for the purchase of a new truck for the Farm Wagon Expansion program and as emergency funding 
Embassy Theatre Foundation, Inc.: $49,000 for the repair of the Theatre's HVAC system 
Fort Wayne Community Foundation, fiscal agent for Invent Tomorrow: $50,000 as operating support to promote community awareness 
Homebound Meals, Inc.: $3,000 for the Meals on Wheels program 
One Church-One Offender, Inc.: $20,000 for Project C.H.A.N.G.E., a culturally specific drug prevention program designed to break the cycle of drug dependency 
Super Shot, Inc.: $12,251 for the Vaccine for Children program that provides free immunizations to all children up to the age of eighteen

Grants awarded from the Knight Donor Advised Fund include:

Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra, Inc.: $12,000 for the Ensembles in the Schools program where Philharmonic musicians present workshops in each of the Fort Wayne Community Schools

Additional Grants awarded include:

Fort Wayne Medical Society, Inc. fiscal agent for Healthier Moms and Babies: $7,719 from the Stephan Family Community Needs Fund, $2,000 from the Rothberg Logan Warsco Fund, and $14,900 from the Fort Wayne Community Foundation Emergency Fund for the Perinatal Outreach Project that provides health education and case management services during pregnancy until the baby's first birthday.

Established in 1956, the Fort Wayne Community Foundation is a public, charitable foundation serving Allen County. The Community Foundation had assets of over $68 million at December 31, 2002, and awarded over $7.4 million in charitable grants and scholarships in that year. These dollars support programs and projects for arts and culture, community development, education, health and human services, and other charitable purposes.
