The Paul Clarke Foundation awards grants totaling $159,260 to local agencies in first quarter

Fort Wayne, IN: At their March 23, 2005, meeting, the Directors of The Paul Clarke Foundation approved seven grants totaling $159,260.

A grant of $34,014 was awarded to the Wayne Township Trustee Office for the Computer Explorers Camp, a summer camp experience designed to teach and inspire inner city children about computer technology and how it applies to their world. Through this fun and engaging camp, children are exposed to topics in nature, health, culture, history, arts, geography, urban planning, and technology.

Additional Paul Clarke Foundation grants awarded include:

  • Black College Alumni Association: $8,000 for the Annual Spring College Tour that provides high school and secondary school students exposure to historically black colleges and universities to encourage students to attend and graduate from college.
  • Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc.: $20,000 for Kids Café, a before and/or after school program that provides free meals and snacks to children who are at risk of hunger.
  • Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau, Inc.: $22,174 for radKIDS, a nationally recognized rape awareness program that teaches children ages 5 to 11 how to recognize, avoid, and escape violence and abuse.
  • Gingerbread House, Inc.: $12,500 initial payment of an up to $50,000 contingent award for childcare scholarships for low-income families.
  • HealthVisions Midwest, Inc. fiscal sponsor for the Fort Wayne African American Cancer Alliance, Inc.: $13,630 for the Down Home Healthy Living Program aimed at decreasing colorectal cancer risk for African Americans through diet, physical activity, and awareness of cancer early detection and screening.
  • University of Saint Francis: $11,442 for the Pre-College Summer Arts Academy, a three-week summer art education program that offers at-risk high school students the opportunity to study the visual arts, work with professional artists, visit area art studios, galleries and museums, and develop their own portfolios for college entrance and scholarship applications.

The Paul Clarke Foundation was incorporated in 1992 to manage a major gift from Paul Clarke who served as the Fort Wayne Community Foundation’s Executive Director from 1972-1984. Funds from The Paul Clarke Foundation are to help disadvantaged youth and their families, with a primary focus on the inner-city of Fort Wayne. Assets of The Paul Clarke Foundation currently total more than $11,200,000.
