The Paul Clarke Foundation awards grants totaling
$212,034 to local agencies in the second quarter
Fort Wayne, IN:
At their May 26, 2005, meeting, the Directors of The Paul Clarke
Foundation approved eight grants totaling $212,034.
A grant of $30,000 was awarded to the Fort Wayne Park Foundation
for the Lifetime Sports Academy, a summer camp experience providing local
youth free group lessons in golf, swimming, and tennis. In addition to the
group lessons, a pavilion program provides arts, crafts, organized games,
tournaments, and other organized activities.
Additional Paul Clarke Foundation grants awarded include:
- African/African-American Historical Society of Allen County:
$20,000 in general operating support to assist the agency’s mission to
educate and promote a better understanding and appreciation of
African/African-American history and culture.
- Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana: $70,000 payable over
two years for the agency’s Finance Park, a reality-based, hands-on
learning simulation facility offering students personal financial
management instruction and career exploration as students visit up to 17
business facades to make purchase, gain income, and evaluate decisions.
- Midwest Alliance for Health Education, Inc.: $6,858 for
“Chew, Chew, Toot, Toot! All Aboard the Digestive Tract,” a Focus on
Health educational health program designed to educate and promote
digestive health issues.
- Rainbow Community Organization, Inc. d/b/a Project Renew:
$10,000 in salary support for a bi-lingual counselor/trainer and
$25,000 for Individual Development Accounts for the agency’s
Immigrant/Refugee program providing educational and financial services
towards home ownership.
- Teach Our Children Fund d/b/a Fort Wayne Center for Learning:
$11,500 as a one-time award toward purchasing furniture, equipment
repairs, and a resource library for the center, which helps children
with learning disabilities develop skills through intensive,
process-based instruction.
- Wellspring Interfaith Social Services, Inc.: $20,000 in
salary support for the East Side West Side after school and summer
programs, offering a wide variety of educational and recreational
opportunities for children.
- YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne: $18,676 for the Old Fort Branch’s
Computer Learning Center, whose programming offers an educational
computer program designed to enhance children’s academic and art skills,
provides a resource for adults to prepare for job opportunities, and
assists students with the college admission process.

The Paul Clarke Foundation was incorporated in 1992 to manage a major
gift from Paul Clarke who served as the Fort Wayne Community Foundation’s
Executive Director from 1972-1984. Funds from The Paul Clarke Foundation
are to help disadvantaged youth and their families, with a primary focus
on the inner-city of Fort Wayne. Assets of The Paul Clarke Foundation
currently total more than $11,200,000.
