The Paul Clarke Foundation awards grants totaling $270,483 to local agencies in third quarter

Fort Wayne, IN: At their August 26, 2004, meeting, the Directors of The Paul Clarke Foundation approved nine grants totaling $270,483.

A grant of $60,000 was awarded to the Fort Wayne Park Foundation, Inc. for the SBA Academy Saturday School at Weisser Center, which meets each Saturday during the school year for children from pre-K through 12th grade to provide assistance in mathematics and language arts. Using an African perspective, students learn the value of academic achievement, respect for others, and community involvement along with a history of the African people.

Additional Paul Clarke Foundation grants awarded include:

  • Allen County Local Education Fund d.b.a. Allen County Education Partnership: $40,000 for Project READS (Reading, Early Assistance in Developing Skills), a program in which students obtain one-on-one tutoring in reading, and parents learn methods that they can use to help support their children’s reading, writing, and comprehension development.
  • Early Childhood Alliance: $35,000 for Parents as Teachers, a parent education program in which parents learn and implement strategies to enhance their child’s development and prepare their child for school achievement.
  • Erin’s House for Grieving Children, Inc.: $35,400 for the Central City Location and the In-School Programs. The Central City location offers a safe, nurturing environment where children can receive peer-support services as they grieve the death of someone they love. The In-School Program offers these services to those children who are unable to attend programming at off-site locations.
  • Genesis Outreach, Inc.: $34,083 for the Men Achieving Self-Sufficiency (MASS) program, which serves homeless men in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions. The program offers transitional housing for up to 24 months and is directed to maintenance of long-term sobriety, self-sufficiency, and family reunification.
  • Super Shot, Inc.: $20,000 for the Community Immunization Program, which provides free immunizations to all children and Allen County and surrounding communities in 30 immunization clinics each month at more than a dozen clinic locations.
  • Vincent House, Inc.: $30,000 to cover salary expenses for a Youth Services Coordinator and a Youth Services Coordinator Assistant in the shelter’s Youth Services Program, which coordinates comprehensive services for homeless children living at Vincent House as well as three other area shelters.
  • Y.M.C.A. of Greater Fort Wayne: $14,000 for the Old Fort Branch After School Program, which offers children between the ages of 5 and 18 a chance to participate in sports, swimming, cultural, educational, and recreational activities during the school year.
