The Paul Clarke Foundation awards grants totaling
$284,414 to local agencies in fourth quarter
Fort Wayne, IN: At their November 20, 2003, meeting, the Directors of
The Paul Clarke Foundation approved 12 grants totaling $284,414.
A grant of $42,784 was awarded to United Hispanic-Americans, Inc.
d.b.a. Benito Juarez Cultural Center for the Adelante! Padres!
(Moving Forward! Parents!) Program. The goal of the Adelante! Padres!
Program is to help strengthen parent-child-teacher relationships,
specifically focusing on generating success in the education of children
of Latino parents. The program will feature a bilingual bicultural parent
coordinator, who will facilitate outreach to Latino parents to help
increase their involvement in their children's education.
Additional Paul Clarke Foundation grants awarded include:
- Arthur J. Blaising Community Center: $13,500 to help fund
Adventure 2004, a summer camp program for elementary and middle school
students in the New Haven and Riverhaven communities.
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, Inc.: $25,000 for the
Go Team! Sports, Fitness and Recreation Program, a program designed to
promote social and team-building skills in children ages 6 to 18.
- Foundation for Art and Music in Elementary Education, Inc.
(FAME): $10,000 for camp scholarships for at-risk students for the
Summer 2004 Fine Arts Camp, with activities including music, dance and
drama classes, art projects, and creative writing classes.
- Girl Scouts of Limberlost Council, Inc.: $25,000 for the
Helping Youth Grow Strong program to provide opportunities for a diverse
population of inner-city/urban area girls to develop critical life
skills to become better integrated into the community.
- INSIGHT: $6,970 to purchase programming materials and
presentation equipment for workshops on effective coping strategies and
proficient problem-solving skills for youth and adults undergoing
education and financial hardships.
- Martin Luther King Montessori School, Inc.: $35,000 for
student services such as transportation, speech and language therapy,
and educational testing and evaluation at the full-day, year-round
preschool for children ages 3 to 5.
- One Church-One Offender, Inc.: $58,640 for Project G.R.O.W.
(Guiding Returning Offenders to Wellness), a mentoring program for
returning offenders that includes goals for personal development and
employment along with those required by probation or parole.
- Power House Youth Center, Inc.: $18,000 in salary assistance
for a Director of Programming who would be dedicated to programs,
volunteer development and community relations at the New
Haven/Riverhaven area community center for youths from 6th to 12th
grade.
- Science Central, Inc.: $20,064 for the TEAM TV Youth
Communications Network, an educational program that utilizes the
technological equipment of media production.
- YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne: $12,000 for the AIM Juvenile
Reentry Program, which provides life skill education experiences to
youth while they are incarcerated and provides mentors upon release to
help them adjust back into their home communities.
- YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne: $17,456 for the Old Fort Branch
Computer Learning Center, a computer lab for both youths and adults
which includes instruction in various programs as well as Internet
access for school assignments, research, and college entry requirements
and applications.

The Paul Clarke Foundation was incorporated in 1992 to manage a major
gift from Paul Clarke who served as the Fort Wayne Community Foundation's
Executive Director from 1972-1984. Funds from The Paul Clarke Foundation
are to help disadvantaged youth and their families, with a primary focus
on the inner-city of Fort Wayne. Assets of The Paul Clarke Foundation
currently total more than $11,000,000.
