The Paul Clarke Foundation awards grants totaling $434,373 to local agencies in first quarter

Fort Wayne, IN: At their February 26, 2004, meeting, the Directors of The Paul Clarke Foundation approved 13 grants totaling $434,373.

A grant of $48,705 was awarded to Indiana Development House, Inc. for the Lifeguard Program. The Indiana Development House, Inc. is a comprehensive alternative transitional housing program for non-violent male ex-offenders. The Lifeguard Program is an intensive program that focuses on mental and physical health, education enhancement, job readiness, building positive family relationships, self-awareness, and community outreach.

Additional Paul Clarke Foundation grants awarded include:

  • Associated Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County: $40,000 for Project Feed the Children to help purchase food items for children at 29 neighborhood food bank sites.
  • Beasley Ministries, Inc. d.b.a Living Word of God Ministries: $48,000 for the Returning Fathers program which assists ex-offenders who are fathers in becoming responsible, productive parents, spouses, and family members. An additional $3,500 was awarded to assist the organization with a financial audit.
  • Black College Alumni Association: $8,000 for the Annual Spring College Tour that provides high school students exposure to historically black colleges and universities to encourage students to attend and graduate from college.
  • Christian Urban Ministries, Inc.: $10,000 to cover the salaries of two basketball coaches for the Prime Time Basketball Program that provides positive role models in an environment with consistent rules, consequences, and expectations.
  • Community Harvest Food Bank: $20,000 for Kids Café, a before and/or after school program that provides free meals and snacks to children who are at risk of hunger.
  • East Wayne Street Center: $30,000 for the Community Home Repair Program that assists low-income homeowners with minor and major home repairs.
  • Faith United Methodist Church: $27,800 for the Cooper Center K.I.D.Z. Club Neighborhood Involvement Program, a youth program located in Reservoir Park which helps grow bodies and minds with opportunities to explore and develop personal interests.
  • Fort Wayne Women's Bureau, Inc.: $31,157 for a second Child Case Manager in the Transitions Program that aims to break the cycle of addiction through recovery services for both women and their children.
  • Friends of Bethany, Inc.: $54,500 in salary support for one full time and two part time positions that supports the Youth Enhancement Program, assisting and mentoring young parents to increase their involvement in parental responsibilities.
  • Gingerbread House, Inc.: $50,000 to subsidize childcare fees at Gingerbread House for 20 low-income families who are either working or attending school.
  • Neighborhood Health Clinics, Inc.: $30,074 in salary and payroll tax support for a psychologist from Park Center to provide mental health/substance abuse services.
  • Wayne Township Trustee Office: $32,637 for the Computer Explorers Program, four separate two week camps designed to teach and inspire inner city children about computer technology and how it applies to their world.

The Paul Clarke Foundation was incorporated in 1992 to manage a major gift from Paul Clarke who served as the Fort Wayne Community Foundation's Executive Director from 1972-1984. Funds from The Paul Clarke Foundation are to help disadvantaged youth and their families, with a primary focus on the inner-city of Fort Wayne. Assets of The Paul Clarke Foundation currently total more than $11,000,000.
