Establishing
Scholarships
Many of us have been blessed with marvelous
educational opportunities. Thanks to the generosity of someone
who came before us, we were able to realize our potential.
You, also, can help improve the lives of the students of tomorrow.
The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne is proud to manage nearly
80 scholarship funds for students. In 2006, we awarded approximately
$1 million in scholarships to students, ranging from $250 to $25,000.
Establishing a scholarship fund is a common charitable goal
for many individuals and organizations. Scholarships are viewed
by many as an investment in the future. For some donors who
may have received scholarship assistance in the past themselves,
establishing a scholarship fund is an opportunity to help
other students in a similar way. It's a wonderful way for
donors to "give back to the community" in recognition
of their appreciation for their education.
The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne makes it easy for donors
and organizations to establish scholarship funds by providing
administrative assistance to help manage the fund. We can
help you establish the fund, develop selection criteria, and
distribute grant applications in the community.
Most scholarship funds at the Community Foundation are permanent
endowments, with the annual earnings used to provide the scholarships.
The Community Foundation can also administer scholarship funds
established through wills or trusts. Financial advisors working
with donors interested in this type of bequest should make
their clients aware of the Community Foundation scholarship
program as an option for administration of scholarships for
a wide range of educational purposes.

Take the steps to establish a scholarship fund to honor your
parents, a former teacher, or someone who influenced your
life. Or, make a gift to an existing scholarship fund. Either
way, you'll be helping to provide opportunities for the students
of tomorrow.
